Description
I started care in 2006 with learning disability where I used to do personal care, cooking house work, driving the clients for shopping, GP appointments, restaurants, pubs, hospital appointments, gardening, driving them to attend their activities etc. I left the company after joining mental health hospital where I worked for 5 years.
At the mental health hospital I used to assist the patients with personal care to those who needed assistance, driving them to home visits, shopping, escorting and assisting in activities. I used to drive them to club to play pool, bowling and playing football with them. We used to restrain them when they start fighting especially meal times that's when more staff were needed during meal time. I left my first job because of greener pastures. While I was still working at mental health hospital I joined the agency so the agency pay rate was doubling the mental health hospital pay rate that's when I left the hospital because the agency has been sending me nursing homes, supported living and nhs dementia wards where the attacks were less than mental health hospital.
My favourite hobbies are church going, shopping, watching football, golf, comedians, chatting with my client. When my client is in bad mood I will have to reassure and give him more time to settle down. When he is settled I will ask him if he needs something to eat or drink then I will find out what had happened before when he was sad. If the client enjoys gardening then we do gardening together. I have got to respect his choices I can't dress him up clothes of my choice and I can't just cook what I think it's the best for him before I ask his choice.
