Description
My name is Grace and I have been a carer for the last 23 years. My experience started as a home carer where you visit clients in their own houses for short hours
The duties I did as a Home-carer was mainly one-to-one caring for people in their own homes and the care included personal care, preparing meals, administering medication, keeping clients houses clean plus shopping and also taking clients out however the care plan has been designed
I also have experience in residential homes and nursing homes for more than 8 years in between my care career
The duties in a residential and nursing homes are more or less the same where a carer is assigned to one or more than one client where one is working alongside other carers to see to clients’ needs right up from the time they wake up till the time they go to sleep.
Keeping them safe and looking after their wellbeing is part of the job and it also includes personal care, medication, feeding, hoisting them in and out of bed and also transferring them in and out of chairs if they are unable and also taking them out for shopping and leisure centres when necessary and engaging them with activities.
I am experienced in all fields of care ranging from catheter, peg feeding, hoisting, manual handling, respite just to name a few.
Apart from Care work I have also worked as a Support worker in the last 7 years and this included all age groups ranging from teenagers to older people.
My most recent job alongside other jobs provided by the agencies is live-in work which I have done in the last 4 years. I find a one-to-one job more rewarding as you get to understand the client’s needs and, in that way, I am able to deliver the right service to the client.

Grace looked after my 95 year old mother's physical needs (washing, dressing, cooking) efficiently. Although pleasant and cheerful Grace did not really connect with my mother and therefore did not provide the companionship we had been hoping for.
