Description
I am a caring mother of three who has always enjoyed supporting the elderly in different capacities. I would describe myself as quiet/reserved, trustworthy, patient and kind. I am often described by people I have looked after as a calming influence. Having worked in live-in care, residential homes, complex care and enablement I have a range of experience working with both men and women.
My whole life has been about caring for others - it isn't something I have had to learn how to do but a natural part of my personality. People tend to look to me to help them. They like to talk to me and I have often been told by friends (and my children) that when they are unhappy about something they find talking to me always comforts them.
I am a great listener and most older people love to talk about their past so I will bring this skill to my caring role. Rather than talk all the time I will listen to them.
I believe in helping people to help themselves so I will always do my best to support a person without feeling I need to take away their dignity by doing everything for them. Many older people are not treated in the best way and I believe I can make a small difference by becoming a carer and providing real personal care that comes from the heart.
My passions include music, being in nature (although I am still not a fan of walking in the rain and snow) and watching musicals. Despite loving modern technology I still love reading books and writing in a journal/notebook - I write very short stories. Love to swim and am trying to get into a regular exercise pattern. I have become really interested in fitness and nutrition which has given me a real insight into the benefits of looking after my wellbeing. While I don't label myself a vegan I do eat very little animal products now and most of my eating involves pluses, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Of course, I am happy to cook whatever foods necessary for my clients.
