Description
My name is Mary and I have been working as a carer professionally for 4 years and 10 years prior to that for loved ones. I am a naturally positive, warm and empathetic person, with excellent communication skills and a good sense of humour. I am a hard worker and well educated and always looking for opportunities to grow my skills. I am extremely patient and a good listener and enjoy learning about and spending time with my clients. I am very adaptable and take a person centred approach, finding ways of working and a rhythm that suits each client.
I try to always help my clients to feel safe, respected and valued in my care, and this has in the past encouraged clients to come out of their shell and enjoy socialising and engaging with the people around them. I also enjoy helping my clients access a range of activities outside of the home and to help them pursue their interests such as visiting art museums and local attractions, gardening and birdwatching, going out for tea or supporting a local sports team.
I am currently working towards a qualification in art therapy and in the past have used my creative skills to help clients connect with others and find a sense of joy and achievement through music, dance and art. I pride myself on making a positive difference in peoples lives.
I have wide ranging experience in care needs; including dementia, care planning, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, palliative care, end of life care, post hospital care, stroke and depression. I am skilled at moving and handling, administering medication, personal care and am an excellent cook and housekeeper. I have a drivers licence and am confident navigating my way around London.
