Hi, I am Matthew and I have been a Healthcare Assistant for over 4 years. In the past, ive done lots of work with Clients who are End of life requiring Palliative Care. I have worked with individuals with a variety of conditions such as Progressive Dementia (Vascular, Lewy Body and Alzheimer’s being the ones I have worked with the most), Parkinson's disease, MS, Multiple Myeloma, Skin Cancer (Melanoma), Stroke, Bowel Cancer and Muscular Dystrophy.Communicating changes in the health and well-being of my clients to their families and other Health Practitioners is a priority. I will make regular thorough notes digitally on the personal care I am doing, and the activities the clients are participating in so the Families know their relatives are being looked after well and have all the information they need to ensure that they are always receiving the correct care they need. To me, Hygiene and ensuring the environment is clean and immaculate are absolutely essential. I always make sure my clients are thoroughly cleaned and well-groomed so they look their best. I like assisting and supporting clients with any tasks and hobbies that they want to do throughout the day. I also enjoy cooking and will cook the clients whatever they want whether it’s baking a cake from scratch or preparing a meal fresh. I want my clients and their families to know that they should never feel they should have to provide their loved ones with Ready Meals because they think it is convenient for the Carer. I love cooking and doing it every day and providing clients meals around their preferences would be my pleasure. One of the things I have noticed Clients enjoy and never say no to is a Sunday Roast. I always if requested provide my clients with a Sunday Roast (on the house) and I promise you I can make the best Gammon you’ve ever tasted! I have always taken a compassionate approach to care; I love talking to and getting to know my clients. I have no problems travelling either.

My career started at the age of 17 when I started a job as a carer in a care home, looking after people who suffered with a wide range of difficulties. It only took me a few weeks to know that this type of career was my calling in life as I loved it so much and caring came very natural to me. I worked in this care home for many years, although I loved this job I felt it was time to move on and broaden my skills and knowledge. This was when I started my career with Marie Curie. I began Marie curie as a healthcare assistant and soon worked my way up to a senior healthcare assistant. This job involved caring for individuals with all types of terminal illnesses. I learnt so much in this role; I learnt skills in enteral feeding, oral suction, syringe driver management, administration off medication, Oxygen therapy, Moving and handling and basic life support; adults and children. I received regular refreshers to keep my skills and knowledge up to date. My role within this organisation was caring for end of life patient’s In there own home, enabling the relative to get some well needed rest. I have a strong belief that a caring role isn’t just about the patient but the whole family. I continued my career with Marie curie for 15 years Often I would be the only person a patient and their relative would see in days, Therefore sometimes they just needed time to off load their emotions or even just have conversations about normal day to day life. I would spend time talking into the early hours if that is what was needed, as talking is a skill which I am outstanding at. but unfortunately had to leave due to both my parents both falling ill and needing full time care. I have spent the last 2 and a half years caring for them in their own home. Now that I am no longer needed for this, I am Extremely excited to get back into the caring profession. Meeting more new people that are in need of my help and care.

I’m 24 years old & have been in the care industry since leaving school, I decided to go self employed after feeling I was always rushed & never seeing the same client twice some months. I preferred being able to take my time to understand & find your preferred ways, I feel like it makes my job & your life run much easier. I’ve learnt many skills & have a well rounded knowledge of the care world. My work age ranges from 2-92 with support work also being added to my skill set within the last 4 years. Even though I’m young I really do pride myself on giving off the best care I can I can take on any criticism & work with it. I have a son which is what I do this for, he makes me want to be a better person everyday! Even though I have my baby I’m still very much dedicated to my work life & still working 7 days a week. Im happy to help with any small or big tasks you only to have to ask. I hope to hear from you soon.
