Roe Valley Country Park

Roe Valley Country Park follows the River Roe through wooded gorges just outside Limavady, with riverside paths, old watermills and one of Ireland's first hydro-electric power stations. There is a countryside centre, the Green Lane Museum and a café by the main car park.

The riverside path from the Dogleap Road car park is relatively flat, there are special benches for less able visitors, the café is wheelchair accessible and a mobility scooter is available.

Benone Strand

Benone Strand is a Blue Flag beach with seven miles of sand below the cliffs of Binevenagh, looking across Lough Foyle to Donegal. Cars can park at the entrance or on the beach itself, and there is a coffee dock in The Ark building.

Benone was Northern Ireland's first fully inclusive beach, with disabled toilets and parking, specialist beach equipment that can be booked through the Mae Murray Foundation, and free parking close to the sand.

Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre

The Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre in the heart of Limavady hosts exhibitions, local heritage displays, film and live music. Visitors can sit and read in its spaces, and Cafe Steinbeck and a craft shop are in Drumceatt Square inside.

Magilligan Point and Martello Tower

Magilligan Point guards the mouth of Lough Foyle, with a nature reserve of dunes and a well preserved Martello tower built during the Napoleonic Wars. The Lough Foyle ferry to Greencastle in Donegal leaves from here.

The Martello Tower can be seen from the car park beside the nature reserve, but the beach is reached by steps, so the carer may prefer to stay by the tower and watch the ferry.

Dungiven Priory is the ruin of an Augustinian priory above the River Roe, holding the carved 15th century tomb of Cooey-na-Gall, an O'Cahan chief. It is a quiet historic site on the edge of Dungiven.

It is a small site that can be seen in a short visit, so the carer can plan it as a stop on the drive through the Roe Valley.
