Rouken Glen Park in Giffnock was voted the UK's best park in 2016, with a boating pond, a wooded glen with a waterfall, and wide lawns. The Boathouse café, a garden centre and a visitor centre in the pavilion sit near the main car park.

Whitelee is the largest onshore windfarm in the UK, spread across the moors south of Eaglesham, with over 130km of paths among the turbines. The visitor centre is open every day and has a café serving hot food and views across the moor.

The visitor centre and café give a warm place to start, and the carer can take a short stretch of track from the car park to see the turbines close up.

Dams to Darnley Country Park

Dams to Darnley Country Park runs between Barrhead and the south side of Glasgow, taking in a chain of reservoirs such as Balgray and Waulkmill Glen. Paths run along the water, with woodland and views over the city.

The reservoir paths let the carer choose a short out-and-back walk by the water and turn round when the parent has had enough.

Eaglesham is an 18th-century planned village laid out around the Orry, a long sloping village green with a burn running through it, lined with old stone cottages. It was the first village in Scotland to be made a conservation area.
