Perth Museum is in the restored former City Hall and is home to the Stone of Destiny, the ancient coronation stone of Scottish kings. It also shows the nationally important collections of Perth and Kinross and has the Stone Café.

Admission is free, and the museum is in the centre of Perth, so it makes a comfortable indoor outing with a café on site.

Perth Art Gallery is one of Scotland's oldest cultural venues and holds works by modern Scottish artists such as Joan Eardley and William MacTaggart, alongside natural history displays. It has a coffee bar and shop.

The Hermitage

The Hermitage is a National Trust for Scotland woodland beside the River Braan, with some of the tallest trees in Britain along the paths. The walk leads to Ossian's Hall, an 18th century folly overlooking the roaring Black Linn Falls.

It is free, and the walk from the car park to Ossian's Hall is short, so the carer can take it slowly and turn back at the falls.

Dunkeld Cathedral

Dunkeld Cathedral stands on the banks of the River Tay, partly roofless ruin and partly still in use as the parish church. The lawns around it run down to the river and are a quiet place to sit.

It is free to visit and the cathedral grounds are close to the small town of Dunkeld with its cafés, so it pairs well with The Hermitage nearby.

Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre

Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre sits beside the hydro-electric dam on the River Tummel, with exhibitions about hydro power and the salmon life cycle. Salmon can be seen using the fish ladder in season, and there is a café and shop with views over Loch Faskally.

The visitor centre and café are beside the dam, so your parent can see the river and loch without a long walk from Pitlochry.
