Robert Burns Birthplace Museum

The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway, run by the National Trust for Scotland, holds a large collection of Burns's manuscripts and belongings, and takes in the thatched cottage where he was born, the Burns Monument and gardens, Alloway Auld Kirk and the Brig o' Doon. The sites are linked by a walkway through the village.

The main museum, café and shop are together in one building, so your parent can see the collection and rest there, and a carer can drive on to the cottage rather than walk the length of the site.

Culzean Castle and Country Park

Culzean is a Robert Adam castle on the cliffs above the Firth of Clyde, surrounded by a large country park of woodland, gardens, a walled garden, a swan pond and coastal paths, run by the National Trust for Scotland. The country park is open all year, while the castle itself opens for the main season.

The country park has car parks close to the main attractions, so a carer can drive between the castle, walled garden and swan pond rather than walk the whole estate.
