Cooking has always been my way of settling into a room, and it turns out that's a useful thing to carry into care work. I'm Damilola, based in Bristol, and over six years of hourly, live-in and overnight care I've found that a shared meal often does more good than anything on a checklist. I speak English, Hebrew, Yoruba and Sign Language, which has opened up conversations with clients I might otherwise have struggled to reach. What I enjoy most is the companionship side of the work. I like planning meals around what someone actually fancies rather than what's easiest, baking something together if hands and energy allow, and sitting afterwards over tea just to talk. That time matters as much as the practical care, whether I'm supporting someone with dementia, Parkinson's, low mood or the quiet frustration of poor mobility. Alongside that I'm comfortable with the fuller range of personal care, from bathing and dressing to catheter care, wound dressing, hoist use and medication reminders, so families know both the daily comfort and the physical needs are covered. I try to bring steadiness and genuine interest into someone's home, not just a list of tasks. If you think I might be a good fit for your family, I'd be glad to hear from you.
