Storiel is Gwynedd's museum and art gallery, in the old Bishop's Palace in the centre of Bangor, with collections on the history, crafts and people of the county and changing art exhibitions. There is a shop and Cafe Siabod on site.

Lifts reach the upper exhibition spaces, small ramps with handrails cover the changes of level between rooms, and two of the ground floor toilets are wheelchair accessible.

Portmeirion is the Italianate village built by Clough Williams-Ellis on a wooded peninsula above the Dwyryd estuary, with coloured buildings, piazzas, gardens and shops. There are cafés, a hotel restaurant and walks through the Gwyllt woodland.

There is a dedicated Blue Badge car park by the main entrance and a discounted ticket for Blue Badge holders, but the village is steep and the woodland paths are rough, so a carer should plan to stay around the central piazza with a manual wheelchair user given help.

Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways

The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways run narrow gauge steam trains from Porthmadog Harbour station, one up to the slate town of Blaenau Ffestiniog and the other through Beddgelert to Caernarfon. The journeys pass woods, lakes and mountain views, and there is a café at Porthmadog station.

Adapted carriages carry wheelchairs on most services with boarding ramps, but spaces are limited and must be booked ahead, so a carer should ring before travelling.

Caernarfon Castle

Caernarfon Castle is Edward I's great fortress on the Menai Strait, with polygonal towers and banded stone walls, part of a World Heritage Site. Exhibitions inside the towers cover its history and the investiture of Princes of Wales.

A ramp leads through the King's Gate into the admissions area and a new lift takes visitors with limited mobility to the top of the gate, although other towers are reached only by steep spiral stairs.

Plas Glyn-y-Weddw is a Victorian Gothic mansion at Llanbedrog, near Pwllheli, now the oldest art gallery in Wales, with changing exhibitions of Welsh art, a craft shop and a café. Woodland paths lead from the grounds down towards Llanbedrog beach.

There is full disabled access to all the exhibition spaces, the café and the shop, a lift to the first floor, a disabled toilet in the café and Blue Badge parking behind it.

Padarn Country Park lies around the lake of Llyn Padarn at Llanberis, with oak woodland, old slate quarry workings and views of Snowdon. Lakeside paths and the historic quarry hospital are within easy reach of the car parks.

The lakeside stretch near the Llanberis car parks is the gentlest part of the park, so a carer can plan a short walk by the water with views of the mountains and avoid the steep quarry paths.

Beddgelert is a stone-built village where two rivers meet below the mountains of Eryri, known for the legend of Gelert the faithful dog. It has tea rooms, shops and an ice cream parlour, and a riverside path leads to Gelert's grave.

The village centre is small and the riverside path by the bridge is short, so a carer can park nearby and plan a gentle stroll between the tea rooms and the river.

Dolgellau is a dark-stoned market town below Cader Idris, with narrow streets, independent shops and cafés around the main square. The flat Mawddach Trail starts from the edge of town and runs along the estuary towards Barmouth.

The town centre is compact and the start of the Mawddach Trail is level, so a carer can combine a short look at the shops with a few minutes by the river.

Harlech Castle stands on a rock above the dunes of Tremadog Bay with views to the mountains of Eryri, one of Edward I's World Heritage castles. A footbridge now leads into the castle from the visitor centre, and there are views from the walls.

There is a small car park with accessible spaces right beside the castle entrance, which matters because the town's lower streets are very steep, so a carer should drive up rather than walk.
