National Waterfront Museum

The National Waterfront Museum in Swansea's Maritime Quarter tells the story of industry and innovation in Wales over the last 300 years, from coal and copper to railways and ships. It is part of Museum Wales and free to everyone.

Swansea Museum is the oldest museum in Wales, in a Victorian building near the Marina, with collections on local history, archaeology and natural history and an Egyptian mummy. Entry is free.

Glynn Vivian Art Gallery

The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in the centre of Swansea holds paintings, porcelain and sculpture from the collection of Richard Glynn Vivian, along with Welsh art and changing exhibitions. It is run by Swansea Council and free to visit.

The gallery has a ground level entrance with no steps, clear wide pathways for wheelchairs and scooters and Blue Badge spaces in front of the gallery garden.

Clyne Gardens

Clyne Gardens is a council-run botanical park at Blackpill, between Swansea and Mumbles, famous for its rhododendrons, azaleas and magnolias in spring. Paths wind through woodland, a bog garden and past follies.

It is free and close to the seafront at Blackpill, so a carer can plan a short walk round the lower garden near the entrance.

Rhossili and the South Gower Coast

Rhossili, at the far end of the Gower peninsula, looks down over a three-mile sweep of beach and out to Worm's Head, and is looked after by the National Trust. There is a National Trust shop and visitor centre in the village.

Blue Badge holders park free, the car park has accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility, and there is a level grassy walk along the cliff top to the Old Coastguard Lookout.

Swansea Market is the largest indoor market in Wales, with stalls selling Gower cockles, laverbread, Welsh cakes, local produce and gifts under a glass roof. It is open Monday to Saturday.

Penllergare Valley Woods

Penllergare Valley Woods is a Victorian landscaped estate on the north edge of Swansea being restored by a charitable trust, with woodland paths, a lake, waterfall and a café. It was laid out by the photographer John Dillwyn Llewelyn.

There is disabled parking and an accessible toilet, though the historic valley is steep and wheelchair access around the woods is limited, so a short visit near the café suits best.

Mumbles is a seaside village at the western end of Swansea Bay with a Victorian pier, a lifeboat station, ice cream parlours and Oystermouth Castle above the village. Its seafront has cafés and views back across the bay to Swansea.

The Gower Heritage Centre at Parkmill is built around a 12th century water-powered corn mill, with displays on rural life, craft workshops and a tea room. It is close to the path down to Three Cliffs Bay.
