The providers
Nine places to arrange live-in care for a couple

7.PrimeCarers
Introductory service: you hire a self-employed carer
- What it publishes
- This site. You search for self-employed carers who take on couples, compare their weekly rates and reviews, and agree the arrangement with the carer you choose. Before a carer appears we check their ID, their right to work and an enhanced DBS (or PVG in Scotland, Access NI in Northern Ireland) issued within the last 2 years, and we interview them online. We do not verify references, qualifications or training, so ask the carer about those yourself. Live-in care for couples
- Published price
- About £1,350 a week for one carer looking after two people, against £1,120 for one person, fee included (PrimeCarers rates, October 2026).
- Suits
- Couples where one carer can manage both people, and the family wants to choose that carer.
- Worth knowing
- One self-employed carer cannot do everything. If both partners need two people to move them, or one partner is awake most nights, you may need a second carer or a waking night on top. We cannot guarantee a replacement if the carer leaves.
8.Elder
Introductory service: you hire a self-employed carer
- What it publishes
- No separate couples page that we found. Its pricing page lists a "spousal support" add-on, where the carer also helps the partner with light domestic duties. Its pricing page
- Published price
- Live-in care from £1,150 a week, plus spousal support at £80 a week, on its pricing page (no date shown; seen 19 October 2026).
- Suits
- Couples where one partner needs care and the other needs only light help.
9.Your council
Council route
- What it publishes
- A free needs assessment from adult social care. Each partner can be assessed for their own needs, and a partner who does the caring can ask for a carer's assessment. Apply for a needs assessment (GOV.UK)
- Published price
- Free to ask. What you pay depends on the financial assessment.
- Suits
- Every couple, before choosing a provider. Council funding may cover some or all of the care.
Each provider’s own page was checked on 19 October 2026. Prices and services change, so confirm them with the provider before you rely on them.
How to choose
Choosing a provider when two people need care
Start with how much help each partner needs, especially at night and with moving, because that decides whether one carer is enough.
If one partner needs most of the care and the other needs a little help, one live-in carer usually works, and an introductory service keeps the cost down. On PrimeCarers that is about £1,350 a week for a couple, fee included. If both partners need two people to help them move, or nights are broken for both, ask a managed agency how it would staff the week. It may suggest two carers, or a live-in carer with visits on top.
Ask every provider
- Whether the price covers care for both partners, or care for one with light help for the other
- How the carer gets their daily break when two people need them
- Who covers the nights if both partners wake
- Whether each partner gets their own care plan
Do not assume
- That a single-person price applies to a couple
- That one carer can safely move two people who each need two to help
Live-in care for couples covers how the day works when one carer looks after two people.
