Over 16 years I have worked in sheltered housing, care homes and as a live-in carer, with people of all ages from children to the elderly, and that variety has taught me to meet each person where they are rather than follow a fixed routine. Day to day I help with washing, dressing and meals, keep on top of medication reminders, and support with mobility, toileting or catheter care where needed. I have experience with dementia, Parkinson's, stroke, heart disease and end of life care, among other conditions, but I try never to let the care get in the way of the person, so there is always room for conversation, music, or just sitting together over a cup of tea. I speak English and Afrikaans, and I keep an enhanced DBS check current so families can feel settled from the start. Away from work I enjoy cooking, photography and pottering with DIY, and I bring that same steady interest into my visits.
