There's nothing I enjoy more than a long walk followed by an afternoon of baking, and I find gardening keeps me settled on quieter days. Those simple pleasures shape how I approach care too: steadily, patiently, and with real attention to what makes someone feel comfortable in their own home. Before I moved into care, I spent thirty years working in a hospital imaging department as a fully qualified radiographer. That work taught me a calm, methodical way of doing things that I still carry with me, and I've recently applied for a new DBS check simply to keep my standards current. Eight years into care work now, I offer hourly and live-in support around Brentwood, helping people with conditions ranging from dementia and Parkinson's to stroke recovery, diabetes and end of life care. What I value most, though, is the company itself. Sitting down together for a proper meal, a walk if someone's able, or just a conversation over tea can matter as much as any task. I'm equally happy helping with bathing, dressing, medication reminders or catheter care, but it's the everyday companionship I think makes the real difference. I build my week mostly around live-in and overnight care in Wigan, moving into a home and staying close through the night as well as the day. What I enjoy most is that steady, quiet kind of support, the sort where someone knows I'm just along the corridor if they wake unsettled, and where the days can settle into an easy rhythm rather than rushed visits. Over 15 years I have supported people through a wide range of conditions, from dementia, stroke and Parkinson's to diabetes, respiratory illness and end of life care. That breadth means I am just as comfortable with hoists, catheter care, wound dressing and medication as I am with the quieter side of things, like reading together, cooking a familiar meal, or simply keeping someone company through a hard patch. Away from work I like walking, gardening, cooking and baking, and losing an hour to a good puzzle. I speak Bulgarian, Greek, Russian and English, which sometimes helps put people at ease.
