I have worked in care for over 6 years, as a care supervisor and as a carer. I am English, educated to degree level, speak French, German and some Spanish and have experience looking after people with Dementia, Physical Disabilities and those who are Hearing Impaired. I Iive in Bexleyheath, am recently widowed but my son lives with me. Apart from our pets and my family my interests are Keep Fit (Member of Bexley Ladies Keep Fit Group)Line Dancing, Reading, Swimming, Quizzes, Crosswords and anything that helps keep the brain active!

One piece of feedback I still think about came from a family member who told me my patience and willingness to listen had made a real difference during a difficult time for them. That sense of being trusted, of a family feeling supported and kept informed, is what I aim for with everyone I work with. I have been caring for eight years now, based in Southampton, and speak German, Hungarian and English alongside. Much of my experience has been with people living with dementia, and I have learned that good care often means understanding the person behind the condition rather than just meeting physical needs. I once supported a gentleman who had become withdrawn, and by talking with him about gardening, something he had loved all his life, he slowly began to open up and smile again. I take the same approach with anxiety, distress or confusion: I listen, stay calm, and use reassurance and familiar routines rather than correcting or arguing. Day to day I offer both visiting and live-in care, and I am comfortable with personal care, medication, mobility support and practical household tasks, alongside conditions ranging from diabetes and stroke to Parkinson's and end of life care. I enjoy cooking, baking, gardening and quiet activities like puzzles or looking through photographs together, and I find these small shared interests often help someone feel more at ease. My working week can look quite different from one day to the next: some clients need a few hours of visiting care, others have me living in, and some need someone steady overnight. I have built my working life around this kind of flexibility over 14 years, based in North Northamptonshire, and I have come to enjoy the variety it brings, especially the chance to settle into a client's routine and become part of their week. Over the years I have supported people through a huge range of conditions, from dementia, stroke and Parkinson's to arthritis, respiratory illness, diabetes and end of life care. I am comfortable with hands on personal care such as bathing, hoist use and catheter care, as well as the quieter, steady work of medication reminders, cooking and keeping a home in order. Speaking German, Spanish and Shona alongside English has also let me connect with clients from different backgrounds, which I value. Having me as your carer means having someone calm and unhurried, who has likely met your situation before and knows how to adapt to what you need rather than the other way round. I take real pleasure in the companionship side of the work too, whether that is a card game, a walk, or simply cooking a meal together.
