What the role looks like day-to-day: companionship and conversation paced for someone with memory loss; maintaining regular routines for meals, sleep and personal care; gentle assistance with washing, dressing and mobility; medication prompts and support; memory-friendly activities and reminiscence; practical help around the home and clear, reassuring communication with family. Much of the work is about patience, repetition and creating small, predictable rhythms that help someone feel safe.

This is an ongoing stream of self-employed opportunities rather than a single post. Carers set their own rates and can choose the clients, hours and area they cover. Typical pay is £18.80–£20 per hour. You can offer hourly visits (£18.80–£20 per hour) or live-in support (£142–£160 per day), and you decide the balance that suits you. Many carers find shifts near Kirkcaldy, East Wemyss, Kinghorn, Buckhaven, Glenrothes and Markinch.
